Zipline Tours
Warm-weather ziplines from Highland Aerial Park,French Broad Adventures or Navitat provide excitement along with majestic views.
Skiing, Snowboarding and Tubing
During winter, take your skis, snowboards and tubes to Cataloochee Ski Area in nearby Maggie Valley. Enjoy 50 skiable acres, with the longest run coming in at 3,500 feet. Wolf Ridge Ski Resort, near the Tennessee border, offers 54 acres of slopes. It’s not skiing in the Rockies, but it will scratch that itch.
Whitewater Rafting
Perhaps the most popular seasonal adventure near your new home is whitewater rafting. The Nantahala Outdoor Center near Bryson City is the most famous outlet, but numerous rafting companies throughout the area rent private rafts or provide a guide for thrilling rides on roaring rapids through scenery that takes your breath away.
Kayaking
For the more advanced river rats, take your kayak or the canoe out in any direction and find some of the best white water trips on the East Coast or hit one our famous mountain lakes like Lake Fontana, Bear Creek Lake, Lake Junaluska, Wolf Creek Lake, Ceder Cliff Lake or Lake Glenville, the highest lake east of the Mississippi.
